Community Description:A community for meta about writing.
Welcome! [community profile] fan_writers is a noticeboard and community for writers on Dreamwidth. As the name suggests, our primary context is fanfiction, but original-fiction writers are also very welcome. We're just here to geek out about writing! Please feel free to say hi and tell us a little about yourself on the Introduction post.

This is a multifandom comm for meta about writing: theory, tools, techniques and discussions. If you're looking for prompts or regular productivity check-ins, check out the Resources post.

[community profile] fan_writers is intentionally a Dreamwidth-centric comm.

Things you can post here:
  • meta about writing, directly on the comm itself
  • links to meta about writing elsewhere on Dreamwidth (public posts only!)
  • links to posts on other platforms only if a) you're including significant context/explanation/reaction along with the link (while respecting the copyright of the original post), and b) you want to discuss the topic in comments here
  • announcements of writing challenges, events and other communities related to the writing process. That is, multifandom writing productivity comms and challenges like Get Your Words Out or Ushobwri, for example; not fanworks exchanges like Yuletide.

Appropriate subjects include:
  • discussions of any aspect of writing, including techniques, tools, and theory
  • subjects relating to prose, poetry, non-fiction (meta, ship manifestos, etc)
  • everything from plots and themes, to word choice and punctuation, to process and writers' block.

Brief thoughts and discussion questions are just as welcome as longer posts. Don't be shy, and please encourage others to link or post their meta here (or link it here yourself if the original poster is okay with that).

Rules
  1. Link to posts made elsewhere on Dreamwidth, or post content directly to the comm.
  2. Posts must be directly relevant to writing, and applicable beyond a single fandom. (Off-topic posts will be deleted.)
  3. Use meaningful subject lines.
  4. Cut-tag long posts, or post them on your journal and link to them here.
  5. Only link to publicly-available material.
  6. Credit people for their ideas.
  7. If you just want to drop a link to a resource (eg, a Tumblr, podcast, substack, youtube channel, website, etc), please leave it in a comment to the Resources post.
  8. Help us stay organised by tagging your entries.
  9. AI-created content is not permitted.
  10. Be respectful when you post and comment.

Thank you!
